About Ant’s Hiding Place (アリの籠り部屋)

Hi, I’m Ant — and I’ve lived in Japan for 24 years.

I grew up watching anime, and somewhere along the way that turned into an actual figure collection I’m slightly embarrassed to admit the size of. Living here means I get to walk into Nakano Broadway, poke around Akihabara, and actually see what’s on the shelves before most of the world even knows a figure exists.

That’s the whole reason this site exists. There’s a lot of outdated, copy-pasted “best anime figure sites” content out there written by people who’ve never actually ordered from Japan themselves. I have — repeatedly, sometimes with results I wasn’t thrilled about — and I wanted a place to share what I’ve actually learned: which stores ship reliably, which ones are worth the extra cost, and which ones to avoid entirely.

What You’ll Find Here

  • Honest comparisons of the major Japan-based figure and hobby retailers
  • Practical buying guides for people ordering from overseas for the first time
  • Notes on shipping, customs, authenticity, and the small details that only show up after you’ve placed a dozen orders

A Bit More About Me

I’ve been collecting figures for years, and honestly my taste is all over the place — hardcore battle series, slice-of-life and iyashikei shows, doesn’t matter, if a figure catches my eye I’ll probably end up owning it. I order from Japanese retailers on a regular basis — both for my own collection and to keep this site’s reviews current. Living in Japan gives me a head start on new releases, regional exclusives, and the kind of context that’s hard to get secondhand from overseas.

How This Site Makes Money

Ant’s Hiding Place participates in affiliate programs with some of the stores reviewed here. That means if you click through a link and make a purchase, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This never affects which stores I recommend or how I write about them — you can read my full [Affiliate Disclosure] for details.
